Symptoms
Young tissue is mostly affected by Ca deficiency. New emerging leaves are small, deformed, yellow and subsequently necrotic. Slightly older leaves show marginal and interveinal chlorosis. Necrotic spots may appear within the chlorotic area. With severe deficiency, flower buds and shoot tips die off, shoot growth is completely inhibited. Calcium undersupply of the fruit is the reason for 'Blossom End Rot', i.e. browning and decay of the fruit tip.
Reasons
Calcium deficiency. Ca undersupply might be induced by nutrient lockout due to excessive N or K., or resulting from low transpiration.
